let's Walk for mental health research

Maylands Rotary and other clubs in the local area will come together with our local communities for our 2026 Lift the Lid Walk and Mental Health Expo.

Where

The Rise Maylands (28 Eighth Avenue, Maylands WA) and surrounds.

Who

Everyone who has been impacted by or cares about mental health. Come on your own, as a family, or get a team together to support world-class Australian Rotary Health research.

What

A Lift the Lid Walk is NOT a race. It is a family-friendly occasion offering an organised fun event, the

chance to chat, get some exercise and fresh air! Enjoy a quiet foreshore/suburban walk, and

talk with others about mental and physical health.

Following the walk, have a stroll around our mental health expo at the Rise. You do not have to

participate in the walk to visit the mental health expo. All welcome!

Why

The purpose of the Lift the Lid Walk is to raise awareness about mental health and to raise funds for much needed mental health research. A major focus of Australian Rotary Health currently is pre-teen mental health. Sadly – 1 in 6 children will experience anxiety, depression or even contemplate suicide – BEFORE they reach the age of 14. Today’s research is tomorrow’s prevention, early detection and treatments.

We are holding the mental health expo because we believe it is important to also raise awareness of options to maintain positive mental health, as well as services and supports that are available to anyone who has mental health challenges, without fear of judgement or stigma.

Route Options

Walkers will be able to choose from two options down to the Swan River and back.

  1. A longer, more meandering ramble along the foreshore and back through the residential area (around 40-60 minutes, 3.5km with stairs on the route)

  1. A shorter, more direct route (around 30-40 minutes, 1.9km) to the river and back to the Rise

Afterwards, visit Delivering Hope, an interactive expo of Rotary programs,

and then explore Maylands town centre.

Please note: These walks will take place on public footpaths in low traffic areas around the foreshore

and residential streets. The shorter walk will be suitable for most people. The longer walk

(with a short flight of stairs) may not be suitable for those with low fitness or mobility challenges.

However, you can sponsor someone else to participate or make a direct donation.

Entry

Adults $30 registration, which includes $22 to pre-teen mental health research plus an

Australian Rotary Health Lift the Lid Walk cap or t-shirt.

(Please note that if you prefer not to wear a cap or t-shirt, or already have one, your registration fee

will be entirely donated to Australian Rotary Health for research.)

Children and young people under 15 walk FREE.

Enter yourself, your family, club, organisation or work team.

Walking not for you? You can also sponsor others in the community to walk or make a direct donation.

Caps or t-shirts for under 15 year olds can be purchased via the registration site.

Latecomers are welcome to register online until the day (however, caps/t-shirts may not be available).

Walkers will also be welcome to register at the event. There will be facilities for cash or EFTPOS.

Proceeds go into pre-teen mental health research through Australian Rotary Health.

Please note: Refunds cannot be provided and all walkers walk at their own risk.
